The Promised Ring

Trapped within a moment
It winks
Just like a whisper
Between two souls.
Simple, yet important,
Forgotten for the moment
Because it is only
An eloquent symbol
To promise the world
That there still is Love.

Beauty, She Is

Odd, lilac streaks
Run through her hair tonight.
Just beneath ever-changing blue brows
That hold the rain above emerald eyes.
Her skin gleams fearless as Bittersweets
With a bold, bright flush of pink
Selflessly expressing her beauty
To the unforgiving world.

Her name is Sunset

Eye to Iris

A black, coffee glance
Overwhelms my safeguard.
Lures me with
Endless pools.
Drop, by drop,
They charm my interest, thoughts.
Away from your colorful thicket,
And capture me in
Their deep-mocha stare.

Addiction

Your love, like a drug,
I can never get enough.
Each smile, each kiss
Was like you were
Never gone.
I'm addicted,
Yet again.
Though you've barely been home.
Why must you leave?
I'll miss you.

Broken, I'll be
For a good week or thirty,
Until I remember to breathe on my own,
I'll spend each moment
Thinking of home,
Because my home is where
Your heart beats.
Until then, I'll reside
With this lonely open space
In myself.
Until I'm over your addiction.

Every second you are home
I'm reminded you'll be gone
Before our chance to reminisce.
Why, my love
Do I think like that
When nothing could be better than this?

Because of my addiction.

Holding me tight,
In your muscled arms
Before saying goodbye
Until the next day is born
Tears up my eye,
I'll try not to cry
My love,
You've not even gone.

Why does it make your strong heart
Ache
For my soul?
It is my fault that I am
Addicted to you,
To your love.

Hurricane

A hurricane is coming,
It brews up in my heart.
My closed eyes, they see nothing
Because my soul has fallen apart.
Goosebumps, they take over
As I push away the waves.
They threaten my blue seas,
Just like a hurricane.
It spreads out to the surface,
Crashes throughout my dizzy brain.
As this feeling spreads throughout me,
Suppressed emotion needs to drain
Just like the hovering waters
of a springtime hurricane.
I'll hold on tight so weakly,
Try to keep hold of being sane.
While distance drives me crazy,
Like a springtime hurricane.

The Horse and the Stag fabel - rewritten by me :)

A race takes place
At the willow today,
Between Stag and Horse
One brilliant, one brave.

Into the meadow,
Across the stream,
Around the bridge,
And back again.

Your mark, set, go!
Fox made it a scene.
All cheered for Stag,
Yet Horse took the lead.

Around the first bend
Laid a fallen tree.
Stopped Horse in his Tracks
While Stag took the leap.

Horse caught up
With anger and power.
He barged into the stream
But Stag sailed over.

They made their way
Around the last bend
Stag sailed over the tree
Horse went around again.

In the final stretch,
Stag took the lead
Everyone cheered
While Horse stood angry.

Stag got Lila,
The girl of Horse’s dreams.
So he walked away in shame
Without saying a thing.

Then he saw a strange man
“Hello sir, what are you doing here?
Looking for some dinner?”
Horse asked with a sneer.

Horse told his story
Of Stag and all.
“But that is such a long walk.”
The man said to stall.

“Oh, I can take you
To this evil deer.”
“I’ll ride on your back
Only if I can steer.”

A moment waned on
As Horse hesitated to think
But said “anything you want.”
With his freedom at stake.

The steel bit was cold
In Horse’s tender mouth.
The man saddled him up
And the pair headed South.

When Horse saw Stag,
He took a quiet step back.
Hidden by the brush,
The man aimed at the buck.

When all was done,
He took the man to his kill.
Horse had finally won
And asked the man to remove his steel.

The man just smiled,
And to Horse’s horror he replied,
“Your new name is Lyle.
Now help me get my dinner back to site.

“Revenge will harness you,
As I am now enslaved
By the same bit of evil
From the deed I did that day.”

This Clear Tuesday morning air

Tastes fresh as a chilled apple

It feels like a cold hand

Pressed to my feverish cheek

The sky is cloudless; boundless

Stars dapple the navy canvas

They grasp my wandering attention

To intertwine me with their own

As if they must remind me

Of my love for the gleaming night

My shadow stands before me

Seducing me toward life’s bitter duties

Reminding myself of what I live for now

I hesitate to glance around

My back still to my waiting friend

Too long I’ve let this moment pass

I proceed as a slave again

Instead of enjoying my few sweet moments

To reminisce with the waning moon

I break free from life’s aggressive hold

As I watch these double doors unfold

I rush around to share the news

That I’ve discovered my rightful path

Outside of these busy working shoes

Bare feet lead me to green pastures

As the chill still nips my nose

But my pale friend is now hidden

Behind the dominant morning rose

Time Taken

When I look up
Into starry skies
Plane lights flash
Like Fireflies

I look around
Into the night
To see blackness
No flashing lights

Summer is gone,
Fall flew by
I got caught up
In a busy time

I missed the nights
And starry skies
Filled with flashing
Fireflies.

Contrast

Cornhusk gold tangles fly in the wind
Caught by the breeze, yet trapped to skin
Tiny blond locks whorl in the mist
Golden from sunshine, caught in the current

When I look down, mine looks so different
Earth colored frizz lay in my hand
The tassles untwisted in its mass
So darkened now, like winter's abyss.

Peanut Butter Pie :)

Addicted am I
To peanut butter pie
Best thing I've ever tried
Mamaw's peanut butter pie

Nothing can compare
Not a cake and not a pear
To the puffy prize
Of Mamaw's peanut butter pies

Sonnet

Each morning my sun comes then goes away

Brings equal dark after another day

A season passes much to my dismay

As summer comes again and goes away

Fall brings in a coming of cold weather

Constantly bears a dreadful reminder

Replacing my close warmth with bitter cold

Chill approaches me as your dreams unfold

States away you’ll be following your dream

During my winter you’ll enjoy spring

Maybe in heartache or happily

So far away I’ll hold love close to me

Far away training to be a Marine

Will you be the same coming back to me?

Comfort

My three stars
Given by his heart
They're hiding now
For the summer now
But for winter they
Will come to stay
With me for a short while
They'll visit me for now
Night after night
In your absense I
Find Comfort in my stars
Comfort for my aching heart

Satisfaction

Walkin toward the house
Dirty hands,
Filthy Jeans.
Saddle pad tucked
Under my right arm
My helmet
In the left.
If I could
Relive
This day
One hundred times
I know
It would never be
Enough.

Undone

Do you want
To see the night,
Or should we wait
Till morning light?

Are the stars big,
Or really small?
Through my eyes
Can you see them all?

Can your love be as deep
As the floor of the Ocean,
Or is it just out of
Some little love potion?

Will our dreams
Come out to play,
Or must we sit and wait
Just one more day?

Life

To doubt everything
Comes
So naturally to me.
Which clouds my future,
                                              Fogs my dreams.
Then makes them all
                                             Less a part of me.
Makes me doubt
The heart of me.

My Alfalfa Home

Waving to me

Alfalfa rolls

A wave like the emotion,

A wave like the ocean,

Silently crawling closer

Down

Down

Down

The hills

Shimmering toward home

Until I hit the end

Of the rolling field

I thanked it for

Reminding me

I'm finally home

Where I'm supposed to be

Live

To paint a picture
Of your life
Would it reveal a smile
Or closed crying eyes

Would you frame your piece
With a wooden frame
Made with the fence
Of your childhood farm

Would you use gray steel
To match your heart
To frame your one piece
Your only art

I'd use soft felt
And shells from the sea
Decorate it with love
For you, from me

Thunder

My tears come fast
Little drops of rain
That Fall
Outside my window

The harsh blow
Of uncontrollable Thunder
Emphasizes
The Pouring Rain

The impossible speed
Of raw emotion
Has hit
Me once again

I attempt a distraction
Put a smile on my face
Because nobody
Wants cold rain

They want your colors
To shine through
But even a rainbow
Relies on the Sun

His Hurt

He hurts inside
For his size
Although he'll never say.
Makes fun of himself
For everyone else,
While he pushes the hurt away.

 Continues to laugh
For everyone else
To savor his foolish pride
He won't even admit
To his closest
How much he hurts
Inside

Tree for Love

I see a red tree of harmony
Covered in the canopy of love
It branches out into the world
Grants wishes meant for above

Along the way grows to this tree
Vines of the devil, of insanity
Black they are against path red
To show of poison, touch if you dare

When making your way to love's tree
Pick your winding paths carefully
Do not cross the black vine's way
It will curse you 'til your last day

Until fate leads you to its path
Be cautious of the Devil's wrath
But once love brings you faithfully
You will be protected by Love's tree

Life lives beneath Love's canopy
Love livens the world, can't you see
Until we find peace and harmony
We cannot be protected by Love's tree

Little Little

A little one we are told
A little one will unfold
Wound so tight
In mother's womb

Put your ear up
Listen careful
To my sibling's
Unborn gurgle

Feel the shape
For their feet
Stretching out
So comfortably

See the imprint
Of their toes
Wondering the sight
Of their little nose

My new sibling
Will love me lots
Will follow me
As a little tot

They'll call me sis
Look at me older
Say sis first
I'll be the best sister

They'll love me lots
Unconditionally
Me and my sibling
Me and Little baby

His Hands

What's in a hand
A hand in a man
To make my solid heart flutter

What of a hand
A hand in a man
To make my soul turn to butter

For a working man
His hands tell a story
Of what he's done and where he's been

Hands of a guitarist
Flexible and long
Made exactly for plucking a string

For a farmer they
Are hard and calloused
From years of the farm's heavy load

A Marine's hand solid
Like a rock, so strong
Turn soft to the touch of my own

Fall

Halfways up the hill
Still so far left to climb
They say that the grass
Isn't as green on the other side

I find that hard to believe
So I will achieve
My goal to climb
Find what's on the other side

From here I can see
Rays of bright sunshine
Beside this hill
Coming from either side

My freedom, I know
Is right before me aglow
I just have to make it
Out of the cold shadow

When I reach the top
Everything will change
My goal achieved
I will find new range

I will find new hills
Through my mountain of life
And I will move on
With great relief

I'll continue on
Though I am afraid
To slip and fall
Back into the shade

I know you'll be there
To catch when I fall
I think I'll be fine
I'll be fine afterall

Eerie gray skies
Shadow my horizon
Heavy raindrops
Smack my tired face

Empty Fields
Illuminate the still
Fog rises in the mog
Shadowing my sight

Though it is midday
The sun is out of sight
Dark clouds rolling in
Create an illusion of night

Funnel clouds fill my sky
Intertwining in the clouds
Twisting tall trees
Not even touching the ground

Touching nothing.
Twisting everything.
My hopes
     My dreams
My life.

Loved

A little girl, loved
Big blue eyes
dimples of craters
and a curious heart.

A little girl, loved
Dresses up.
Her flower skirt
And her favorite pink shirt.

A little girl, loved
Asks her mom
Can I go out
And play in the mud?

A little girl, loved
Is older now
Long curly hair,
A boyfriend now.

A little girl, loved
Dresses up.
A long red dress
A look to impress.

A little girl, loved
Asks her mom
Can I go with him?
Can I go to prom?

A little girl, loved
A grown woman now.
A college graduate
An author now.

A little girl, loved
Slips on a white dress
An absolute beauty
Her nerves in a mess.

A little girl, loved
Loved by many
Loves a green eyed boy
Who asks her daddy
Can I give a ring
To your little girl
Can I marry her sir?
Can I love her forever?

A little girl, loved
Much older now
But she'll always be
Her Daddy's little girl.

Love Long

Loving so strongly
So boldly, so deeply

Love without guard
Without judgement

Love more than one
For you will be loved by many

Love without regrets
So your life will be full
And your love will be strong

But never forget
To love yourself
For you are far more important
Than everyone else

Follow

A Service wife
Was never my dream
But for you, My love
I’ll do anything

I’ll Follow you fast
Wherever you go
In the heat of a moment
Or chill of the snow

I’ll be your everything
Lover and Friend
And for this our love
Will carry to the end

Strong and fast
Soft and slow
I will follow you,
My Marine
Wherever you go.

For Zachary

shoot for the moon
because you could meet a star

and one day you could be
as bright as they are

on your adventure there
be sure to stop a while

because you cannot win
if you don’t take the time to smile

Firework

Don't be like a firework,
So bright and then just fade
Be reliable like the sun
And shine for me every day
